I’m Ermias from London and, right now, I’m in my second year of a Supply Chain Apprenticeship at Nestlé. I work as a Category Demand Planner, looking after the beverage solutions portfolio. In this area of the business, we rent out a variety of branded machines to customers and then sell them everything they need for them, from coffee to chocolate! As a business we need to estimate how many ingredients our customers will need over a set period of time, and that’s where my role comes in. I plan the demand through the close analysis of statistics, including reviewing historical data, as well as holding meetings with the likes of supply planners, sales and marketing. Every day is different and involves managing multiple stakeholders, which can be challenging at times, but it is also hugely motivating.

My role is very cross-functional and it’s been enlightening to see how each business area affects what I do each day and vice versa. That, along with the fact that I get to attend informative and fun college sessions, are my favourite parts so far.

The induction weeks before starting my role were brilliant. I think the one thing that surprised me when I first got here was just how many acronyms there are to remember at Nestlé! But I was soon brought up to speed and was taken on factory tours, given insight and advice from the Supply Chain leadership team and lots of chances to network, so it was great.

What I’ve learned since joining, is that in terms of your progression and social life, you have to network. It’s also important to be agile when it comes to learning as it’s really fast paced. If, like me, you thrive on that, I would say go for it as you will gain valuable experience working for one of the biggest companies in the world!

What can you expect?

As the world’s largest food manufacturer, we source from across the globe. Production never stops and our supply chain is a vital part of what it takes to keep us moving. To make sure our customers are never disappointed, we need to source, forecast, manufacture and deliver onto the shelf on time. This takes responsive manufacturing and agile logistics and delivery, all at the lowest possible cost.

This is a great three-year opportunity to experience, end-to-end, one of the most exciting supply chains in manufacturing. You’ll mix on the job work experience with valuable classroom learning. You’ll have the chance to speak to customers and liaise with suppliers, as you forecast with factories. But you won’t be purely UK focused, as a global company you’ll work with other Nestlé countries and markets.

Who are we looking for?

The Apprenticeship starts in September 2019. To be considered, you will need: 5 GCSEs or equivalent (actual or predicted) at grades 9 - 4 (or A* - C if received in 2017 or previous), which must include English and Maths. If you also have an ICT qualification, this would be beneficial, but not compulsory.

We’re looking for ambitious, passionate people, who will take the initiative and are full of great ideas, all underpinned by a desire to learn new skills. It’ll take commitment, a commercial mind-set and a heck of a lot of hard work. In short, it’ll take people who want to build a lasting career full of exciting challenges.

Due to shift working, there is a minimum age requirement for this role and therefore to be eligible you must be 18 by 1st September 2019.
