Fran Baldwin
Nutritionist Placement, Gatwick

I’m originally from Derby but have been at Nestlé Gatwick for 11 months now and will soon complete my placement year here. Before I joined, I’d completed the first two years of a BSc (Hons) Nutrition at University of Leeds and will be returning there for my final year.

Nestlé has given me a unique opportunity to experience how a Nutritionist works in a large FMCG company with an amazing reputation for leading the way on Nutrition, Health & Wellness. It’s also one of the few placements that enables students to educate individuals about nutrition, as well as working to improve the nutrition of products consumed by millions.

The application process was really straight forward. After the online tests, I was asked to attend an assessment centre with an interview, group activity and individual presentation. Out of 10 candidates, I was delighted to be offered the role.

I’ve really enjoyed the variety, from working with the employee wellbeing programme to feeding into the design and reformulation briefs that help to improve the Nestlé nutrition credentials. Not to mention helping inform the business on how the wider world views nutrition.

I’d love to come back to the team as a Nutrition Manager for one of the businesses in the future. This year here has given me a great understanding of the role and I’d love the chance to put that into practice.

My advice to anyone thinking of applying is: make sure you do your research about the company before you apply and be enthusiastic. This is a place filled with committed, hardworking people who are proud to work here – so you’ll need to be too.
